2000 Avenue of the Stars

Environmental Impact Report
– City of Los Angeles

Envicom Corporation in cooperation with Trammell Crow Company, Gensler Architects and Latham and Watkins, prepared an EIR for the 2000 Avenue of the Stars Project. This project proposed redevelop the 9.2-acre ABC Entertainment Center site located in Century City, and includes the demolition of two structures (the former Schubert Theater and Platt Theatre) and the construction of a new 719,924 square foot “landmark” commercial office building. Buildout of the project provides restaurant, retail, and cultural space, as described further below.

Gensler has designed the building with a character defining central opening in the structure, that will give the building a landmark presence. The large opening is created by spanning between the two ends of the building at the upper and lower levels, creating larger and smaller floor plate sizes. From street level on Avenue of the Stars, this rectangular, open-air space would frame views of the two Century Plaza Towers.

The proposed project was designed to replace two existing buildings, which no longer met current standards of operation. The presence of materials such as asbestos made any renovations short of complete reconstruction prohibitive. Key issues in the EIR include: visibility, traffic, land use and utilities. This project was the first project to receive a Water Availability Assessment through the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, pursuant to Senate Bill 610.
